ZIMBABWE’S FUTURE IN JEOPARDY WITH FAILED POLICIES AND ILLEGITIMATE RULE
Wonders never cease. Zimbabwe is on the brink of failure and collapse. The situation is dire, especially because of who is in control. The power in place is illegitimate, shown by the introduction of measures that do not solve real, critical issues. For example, mud ovens are a symbol of these poor solutions. Digital gold coins are also not going to solve the crisis caused by the political illegitimacy of those in power. Physical gold coins already failed, and digital ones will do the same. These measures, like digital gold, mud ovens, and pfumvunza, try to address symptoms but not the real problems.
People who understand politics know that digital coins will fail. The same way physical gold coins, in controlled supply, failed. There can never be enough gold coins to fix the problems. The government in Zimbabwe is seen as terrorist, illegitimate, criminal, and compromising national security. They neglect people’s welfare and fail to deliver reliable services. They seek a one-party state and are obsessed with self-enrichment. This government abuses human rights and property rights. They misuse the law and act in predatory ways. The government spends money without control, using it for looting rather than for the people. The majority are excluded from governance and are ruled without constitutional rights.
People are deprived of their fundamental rights. They lack clean water, education, basic health care, and other essential needs. The digital gold coins will fail because the government in power is criminal and illegitimate. This government is hostile to development and empowerment of the oppressed people. The people are terrorized and suffering. They sell their votes for food due to the current humanitarian crisis caused by food insecurity. Digital coins are like the local currency called RTGS, which is printed uncontrollably. This currency is often used to pay the security sector, which supports the illegitimate government.
The introduction of digital gold coins is just another attempt to remedy the crises. These attempts are piecemeal and will fail. The government is focused on self-enrichment rather than addressing the real issues faced by the people. The situation in Zimbabwe is not improving because the measures taken are not addressing the root causes of the problems. The people need legitimate governance that cares for their welfare and rights. Only then can Zimbabwe hope to recover and thrive.
