ZIMBABWE: A COUNTRY IN CHAOS DUE TO ZANU PF’S IRON GRIP

Alleged whistleblowing in Zimbabwe, just after sanctions, is seen as another misguided and paranoid attempt by the opposition to change the regime. This opposition is believed to be supported by Western nations aiming for regime change, which Zanu PF views as a threat to their power. Surprisingly, crimes linked to Zanu PF go unnoticed by the police, who are the most misused force in the region. Despite clear evidence in public scandals like the Draxgate or the six kilograms of gold smuggling attempt involving Rushwaya, the main criminal, Auxillia Mnangagwa, remains free while dissent is harshly punished.

Why would a whistleblower be sentenced to such a long prison term? The police and the state provided no solid evidence, but because the judiciary is controlled and compromised, the whistleblower was sentenced. The old judges, like Malaba, refuse to retire and continue to exploit their power. They are part of a judicial system that is weaponized against anyone exercising their constitutional rights, such as freedom of assembly, expression, and movement.

Meanwhile, those involved in significant corruption cases, like the ZISCO steel plant derailment between 2005 and 2008 or the Ministry of Water and Rural Development scandal in 1999, remain free. These people are still in the government, enjoying their freedom and completely protected from prosecution. Prosecutions only happen when they serve a political purpose and quickly lose traction once the propaganda goals are met. Auxillia Mnangagwa’s television station aims to fool a supposedly politically uninformed population.

Corruption and human rights abuses are rampant while dissent, real or imagined, is met with harsh backlash. This backlash stems from Zanu PF’s fear of losing power. They have been in power illegitimately for so long that they fear the consequences of losing it, including state paralysis and economic failure. Any threat to their power is met with severe repression, including lawfare, extrajudicial killings, maiming, and rape against those labeled as dissidents.

The fear of losing power is justified for Zanu PF, as losing power would mean facing prosecutions for their crimes. This fear drives their desperate measures to maintain control, including capturing and compromising the judiciary. This ensures that they remain insulated from prosecution by both domestic and international bodies, like the International Criminal Court.

Zanu PF knows that a peaceful transition of power to the opposition would restore the constitution and the rule of law. This would lead to reforms in the police force, separation of powers, and devolution of centralized power. The consequences for Zanu PF would be severe, including losing their protection from prosecution and their illegally obtained wealth. This is why they are so harsh on dissent, even something as simple as whistleblowing.

In conclusion, Zimbabwe is in chaos because exercising your constitutional rights results in losing your freedom. Zanu PF is protected by a partisan police force and a compromised judiciary, which they use to crack down on dissent. They are intolerant to dissent because it threatens their illegitimate power and wealth. This is why Zimbabwe is like a circus, with corruption and human rights violations being tolerated while those who speak out are harshly punished.
