ZIMBABWE POLICE PROPHECY WARNS OF ELECTION VIOLENCE
Zimbabwe has had many prophets, more than enough to make ancient Israel envious. This month, something expected finally happened. The police gave a prophecy about Zanu PF, the ruling party.
This prophecy, if seen objectively, is a warning for Zimbabweans about the future. Analyzing this prophecy from Zanu PF shows important facts about Zanu PF, their view of the upcoming elections, and the general political climate.
This observation and the deduction based on this prophecy by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), who are seen as a tool of Zanu PF, lead to other theories. These theories are based on the recent willingness for national dialogue and moves towards goodwill and legitimacy.
The theories are simple. If the opposition party led by Mwonzora and Zanu PF are working together, who will be the victims of Zanu PF’s prophecy? This is a crucial question.
Another question is that Zanu PF does not need any opposition, calm or not, after 2023. The current opposition, led by Mwonzora, might be used for two possible outcomes. One is to act as a front for an empty gesture of national dialogue. Empty because neither Zanu PF nor Mwonzora have the popular vote to represent Zimbabweans. The second scenario is that Mwonzora’s party might be allowed to contest, with Zanu PF knowing that the public does not support either party. This means there might be no opposition in the legislature, giving Zanu PF a free hand to achieve its goal of a single-party state.
This prophecy by the ZRP does not make them innocent. The police, second only to the military, have a history of violence, especially against unarmed citizens. Many times, the police commissioner, Matanga, has been sued by victims of police brutality. It is important to note who suffers from the ZRP’s violence. It is the opposition.
So, it is worrying when the police, who have been terrorizing citizens, speak or warn of coming violence. Have the ZRP suddenly reformed as demanded by civic society, suitable in a democratic society that values life, rule of law, and equality before the law?
This forecast of election violence by the police is also being used as a psychological weapon against the public, according to the analysis of this prophecy. Zanu PF uses the police to remind people of past horrors carried out by Zanu PF to hold onto power, often by devaluing life and property rights.
As a psychological weapon, this reminder of violence works through a process called abreaction, a psychoanalytical term for reliving an experience to purge it of its emotional excesses—a type of catharsis. In this case, ZRP is acting as a trigger. This forced reliving of traumatic events is intended to influence electoral outcomes against Zanu PF.
Surprisingly, no investigations have been carried out, and no arrests have been made. The long arm of the law of ZRP seems to have been cut off. One wonders where Zanu PF’s tool, the ZRP, got this information about inevitable violence. Unless the opposition, MDC Alliance, is to be framed and eliminated through legal means, captured judiciary, and electoral commission for Zanu PF’s crimes. The analysis suggests a potential exclusion of MDC Alliance from contesting elections, on the grounds of being a likely source of violence. It might seem far-fetched, but the indications are there.
This analysis is complete for this article, though it can be extended. The key takeaways are that the police, with their forecast, are not acting in the interests of Zimbabwe, her peace, tranquility, and stability, nor for a peaceful, lawful transition of power. They are acting in the interests of Zanu PF, which are unsustainable, parasitic, and exploitative.
