In Zimbabwe, a tragic event has shocked the nation. Dr. Mthabisi Nembaware, a dedicated doctor, lost his life in Mutare. He was in a car accident, and the hospital there did not have an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This sad event shows how bad the healthcare system in Zimbabwe is.

Mutare General Hospital is supposed to help many people in the eastern part of Zimbabwe. But it was not ready for such a big emergency. Dr. Nembaware’s death highlights the big problems in Zimbabwe’s hospitals. There is a lack of basic medical equipment and important medicines. Sometimes, there aren’t even painkillers. One big problem is that many doctors and specialists are leaving Zimbabwe. They are looking for better jobs and lives in other countries. This means there are not enough healthcare workers left in Zimbabwe, making the situation even worse.

Zimbabwe has had an economic crisis for many years. This has made it hard for public healthcare facilities to give even basic care to people. The bad state of healthcare was a big issue in the recent election. People want the government to fix the healthcare system quickly.Veteran journalist Barnabus Thondhlana told the story of Dr. Nembaware. Dr. Nembaware worked hard in rural Hauna and was traveling to Mutare when he had a bad accident. He had a severe Traumatic Brain Injury. At first, he was stabilized at Mutare Hospital.

But Mutare did not have a working ICU or a good ambulance system. This made it impossible to give him the special care he needed. There was an expensive helicopter ambulance, but the state could not use it to take him to Harare, the capital city.

Dr. Nembaware’s family tried hard to save him. They got a private air ambulance for $5,000. Sadly, it couldn’t take off because the landing lights at Mutare airport were not working. This series of problems led to the loss of a good doctor and showed how bad the healthcare system in Zimbabwe is.

Dr. Nembaware’s death shows the bigger issues in Zimbabwe’s healthcare. The country has the resources to build a good healthcare system. But public money is being misused. This means the nation does not have essential services like healthcare. Every year, millions of dollars are wasted on luxury cars for political leaders. This money could be used to improve important public services like healthcare. It is very sad that Dr. Nembaware, who spent his life helping others, was let down by the healthcare system when he needed it the most.

Zimbabwe is now mourning Dr. Mthabisi Nembaware. His death reminds us that the failing healthcare system is a danger to everyone. It also stops the country from having a better future. There is a need for urgent and complete changes to fix the healthcare system. This will help ensure that no more lives are lost due to preventable problems. Dr. Nembaware’s death should push the nation to demand better healthcare. The country needs to invest in a system that truly cares for its people. May he rest in peace, and may his life inspire change in Zimbabwe’s healthcare sector.
