POWER CRISIS EXPOSES THE REALITY: WHO’S TO BLAME?

Last year, the electricity authorities blamed the long power cuts on low water levels in Lake Kariba. This was ironic because the lake was built by the very white settler government that they claim to have fought against. Now, it’s just after the 2022-2023 rainy season, so they cannot use the excuse of low water levels. This shows a sad truth: the rural voters, most of whom live in simple houses, do not understand the real reason behind the power cuts, even though they depend on industries that are most affected.

This electricity crisis affects everyone, whether you have electricity at home or not. The main cause is the corrupt and oppressive ZANU PF government. This government does not care about the people’s well-being and continues to violate the laws of the country. The people are living in poverty because of the government’s failure to provide prompt, affordable, and reliable services.

Imagine you are a peasant family without electricity at home. You have a son with a young pregnant wife. Your family depends on food aid distributed by the ZANU PF government, which only helps its supporters. Your daughter-in-law is about to give birth, and it’s a premature baby. The baby needs an incubator to survive, but there is no electricity to power it. Sadly, the baby dies.

Everyone needs electricity for many things, but the ZANU PF government has made sure there isn’t enough. The people have the right to choose a government that will protect their interests, but their rights are being ignored. The electoral commission is biased, unprofessional, and controlled by the military. It supports the failing ZANU PF government, which dreams of a one-party state. If they continue to rig elections, there will be no end to the power cuts, and we will be stuck in the dark ages.

The lack of electricity affects everyone, not just those in the cities. Industries cannot function properly, affecting jobs and the economy. Farmers cannot irrigate their crops, leading to poor harvests and food shortages. Schools and hospitals struggle to provide basic services. The whole country suffers because of the ZANU PF government’s incompetence and corruption.

The government’s excuses are not valid. The rainy season has just ended, and there should be enough water in Lake Kariba to generate electricity. The real problem is the government’s mismanagement and failure to invest in the electricity infrastructure. They have not maintained the power plants or built new ones to meet the growing demand. Instead, they have been busy enriching themselves and neglecting the needs of the people.

People in rural areas may not have electricity at home, but they rely on services that need electricity. For example, they need electricity to pump water for drinking and irrigation. They need electricity to power clinics and hospitals. Without electricity, these essential services cannot function, and people’s lives are put at risk.

The ZANU PF government is responsible for the power crisis. They have failed to manage the country’s resources properly. They have ignored the needs of the people and focused on their own interests. The people deserve better. They deserve a government that will provide reliable electricity and other basic services. They deserve a government that respects the law and their rights.

It is time for the people to demand change. They need to hold the government accountable for its failures. They need to vote for leaders who will put the people’s interests first and work to improve the country’s infrastructure. Only then can they hope for a brighter future with reliable electricity and better living conditions.

The power crisis is a symptom of a bigger problem: the corrupt and incompetent ZANU PF government. The people must stand up and demand their rights. They must work together to build a better future for themselves and their children. Only then can they escape the darkness and move towards a brighter, more prosperous future.
